September 16-18, 2022
Harvard Law School, Cambridge MA
The Harvard Trade Union Program reached an important milestone – 80 years of nurturing and developing labor leaders from all over the world. During September 16-18, 2022, the Labor and Worklife Program, in collaboration with the Harvard Trade Union Program Alumni Association, celebrated this 80th anniversary with a 3-day event at Harvard Law School. Participants had the opportunity to discuss cutting-edge labor issues with fellow alumni and Harvard faculty. They also enjoyed the company of alumni at a festive dinner on Friday evening hosted by IBEW 103 and a dinner cruise of Boston Harbor on Saturday evening.
Since this was the first event held by the HTUP in 2 years we were excited to welcome over 50 alumni back to campus. Nevertheless, for those who could not attend in person, we had the symposium panels and some virtual social events available on Zoom. We had alumni from the class of 1973 through to 2020, the last class before the 2 year hiatus.
The topics of the panels and roundtable discussions included:
- Overview of Labor in 2022
- Power Through Organizing and Labor Action: The Role of the Wurf Memorial Fund
- The Scary Reality of Climate Change: The Implications for Unions and Worke
- Governing the Workplace in the USA and Canada: The Labor Law Vision of HTUP Faculty Co-Director Paul C. Weiler (1939-2021)
- The International HTUP: Labor Leaders Spanning the Globe
- Should Social Justice be Central to Organized Labor?
