Throughout 2020 and the peak of the Covid pandemic it was clear that after running for 78 consecutive years, we would not be able to run the residential Harvard Trade Union Program in 2021. Nevertheless, in those dire times, we felt a commitment to educate and guide the labor movement. We designed a multi-class online workshop that combined the highlights and strengths of our core curriculum with a focus on current urgent challenges: overcoming the raging pandemic, navigating the economic recession, and achieving pathways to racial justice.
Once again in 2022, even though the world health situation had improved, we were still unable to run the residential Harvard Trade Union Program. We chose to continue to support and guide the labor movement by providing another online workshop exploring the timely issues of the attack on democracy and the increase in union organizing and worker mobilizations.
The workshops were designed for current and former labor leaders, but we welcomed anyone dealing with and interested in these issues. For HTUP alumni, this was a good refresher course to reinvigorate your soul by learning from and interacting with other union leaders and experts from around the world. Ideally, it hopefully brought back that spark and ways of thinking you experienced in the HTUP.
