Associate Director
AFSCME
2019
I retired soon after the program. My personal life was turned upside down when my son was murdered in my home. I came home and encountered two intruders who threatened me with a gun, after they left I found my son lying face down in a pool of blood. He was deceased. The next year and a half was the murder trial where they were both found guilty. I continue to grieve but I love life and find purpose working part-time at a group home and teaching aquatics and life guarding at the local community center. I continue to find so much value in the HTUP and value/treasure the memories and education.
What impact has the HTUP had on your life/career?
Made me a more well rounded person and a thinker. Expanded my appreciation for other ideologies and opinions
Do you have an interesting/funny story of when you attended the program?
Having David Noel for a roommate and conversing with him and Kevin Sheptycki both from Canada was enriching and humorous. David did all our laundry and I did all the cooking. Studying with David and trying to explain certain words and phrases (David spoken French most the time, English was his second language) we became very good friends.
