Kelly-Williams, Donna

President
Massachusetts Nurses Association
2007

Shortly after attending HTUP I graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a BA in Labor Studies and entered into and completed a Masters in Healthcare Management. I was elected as the Massachusetts Nurses Association in 2009 and served 5 terms until my retirement in 2020.

What impact has the HTUP had on your life/career?
Attending HTUP gave me confidence as a Registered Nurse to use my voice and power to address issues impacting the care of patients and the profession of nursing.

Do you have an interesting/funny story of when you attended the program?
I walked thru the front door of the Harvard Faculty Club to have dinner with Dr. Bernard, a program speaker, and several fellow classmates. I was shaking and had tears in my eyes as I remembered as a child we were never allowed to enter the faculty club thru the front door. My mother was a waitress in the club and we would walk to the club after school to meet her for the walk home on early release days. We would meet her at the employee entrance by the back parking lot. My father was also a Harvard employee as a dishwasher at the Law School cafeteria. They would have so enjoyed seeing me attend such a prestigious program. I will always to grateful to the Massachusetts Nurses Association for giving me the opportunity to be the first of many MNA nurses and staff to attend.
